Marketing Escape Rooms

Questions about how to advertise and market your escape room - methods, places. Marketing is key to your business even though it's nothing to do with escape rooms - it is the add-on you cannot be without.

How do I describe what an escape room is?

“An escape room is a live 60-minute adventure. You and your team (that’s us!) get to select a challenge and have one hour to complete the mission and escape.  We could be in prison planning an escape, on Mars trying to repair a spaceship, or in a museum stealing back a piece of art.” The Escape Game, "HOW TO EXPLAIN WHAT AN ESCAPE ROOM IS TO YOUR FRIENDS"

So emphasize the the fact that is a fun, social activity like doing a really exciting video game in real life. Getting across the fact that it's a real life make believe story in which everyone gets involved is key.

Don't forget some atmospheric pictures - making it look exciting and absorbing is better than lines of text.  Think film posters, dramatic larger than life images!

How do I make a website for my Escape Room?

Your website needs to be bright, interesting and attractive which is all about the way you describe it, the pictures you can upload, the ease of booking a slot.

You can use website building tools like Wix, Squarespace or even WordPress if you are feeling a little bit more adventurous and able.

Essentially these make the process of designing your website fairly easy, or if you aren't that confident,  skilled help is not excessively expensive.

If you want bespoke bells and whistles then you will need professional support,  and that will probably be on-going, because you will want to make changes, so think carefully about whether that is really want you want.

How to add graphics to Escape Room team photos?

Android and iPhone have plenty of free apps to edit phones - have a look here - but they do require a little skill if you want to obtain consistent results.

Buzzshot escape room software lets you integrate your customer pictures into your marketing straightaway and has enough features focused on what you need to make your pictures buzz with the right graphics.

The gold standard for image editing is Adobe Photoshop, but it's expensive and has a steep learning curve, plus it's rather cumbersome to use for every team photo.

What makes your Escape Room advert stand out?

Striking, interesting images showcasing the atmosphere and artistry of your Escape Room - but with people in them. Make the picture a lively story in itself. Check out professional Escape Room photographer Ilya Nodia's post guest post at Now Escape, I shot 500+ professional escape room-photos for some great pictures and more ideas.

Ensure that your advert gives an intriguing picture of the narrative behind your Escape Room, tell the story behind the game.

And of course don't forget to foreground your feedback, quotes from reviews - give people a path to follow. Remember that you are advertising to complete newbies as well as experienced Escape Room junkies. The former will want to know a bit more, will want a bit more reassurance, so maybe you supply them with a simple introductory puzzle.

The latter are after a quality problem solving experience, so the artistry and detail in the props, the atmosphere that you create are crucial.

For both groups using a multi-media approach fits the dynamic image of Escape Rooms as an adventure to share with friends - accentuating the social side rather than the geek side.
